From September to November, the light and vegetation gradually change as the valley and surrounding mountains slowly and serenely adopt their rich autumn colours. Visit us at this period and you will be captivated by a different Chamonix, quiet and resourceful...

The lifts and trains

Aiguille du Midi - Open daily till November 1st,2010, from 08:30 to 16:30. Closing from Novenber 2nd to December 17th,2010.
Panoramic Mont-Blanc Gondola open till September 19th.

Train du Montenvers - Mer de Glace - Open daily from 8:30 to 16:00. Closed from October 11th to 22nd from 10:00 to 16:30.
The ice cave and the lift are closed from the October 4th to December 17th, 2010.

Brévent - Open till September 19th 2010.
From 2nd November 2010 to 17th December 2010 : the Planpraz telecabine is open during Fall to pedestrians. During this period, the ski area is not open.

Flégère - Open till September 26th 2010.
From 23rd October 2010 to November 1st 2010 : the site is open during Fall to pedestrians, Index chairlift included. During this period, the ski area is not open.

Balme - Open till September 19th 2010.

Tramway du Mont Blanc - Open till September 26th. The tramway runs till Bellevue.

Hiking and Biking

Autumn is an ideal time for mountain walking and biking. Certain routes however may be subject to conditions at altitude so please be informed before setting out. The High Mountain Office, next to the church in the centre of Chamonix, provides information on mountain safety, weather conditions, route maps, etc.

Walking and biking maps are also available from the tourist office.

After a day in the mountains, as the evenings draw in, Chamonix "by night" is an enjoyable experience:

Cinema Vox : daily programmes, 3 viewing screens. Programme on-line.

Casino : Open all year round.
One arm banidits from 12:00 to 3:00, or 4:00 on week-ends and evenings prior to bank holidays. Games tables from 21:00 to 3:00, 4:00 on week-ends and evenings prior to bank holidays. Proof or identification/age must be shown on entry.

Chamonix offers a wide choice of restaurants and bars, most of which remain open all through the autumn.
