Step by step in the mountains

The valley offers 350 km of superbly maintained hiking trails, with 160 different itineraries offering walks adapted to all.
Choose the lower valley trails for the wonderful forest scents or gain altitude and taste the blueberries, admire the fantastic panoramas and test your stamina.

Useful reading: Le guide et la carte des sentiers du Mont-Blanc (Guide-book and map of Mont Blanc hiking paths).  Price: €13.50. The map itself is also sold separately for €4.
On sale in the Tourist Office and in bookshops, but also on our online store.

Refreshment stalls & restaurant chalets

Take a walk and discover the refreshment stalls and restaurant chalets on your way. Located in the lower valley or perched high in magnificent settings, they are the ideal destination for a family walk and a little gourmet break.
See the list of refreshment stalls and restaurant chalets in the Summer Welcome Guide-book, published and distributed by the Chamonix Tourist Office.

An unusual way of hiking

Dog hiking “Cani-rando” in French: Exploring nature with a dog as your most faithful friend. Dog hiking consists in letting yourself be pulled by a Nordic dog, guiding it by your voice and precise gestures. This activity is proposed by Huskydalen.

The notorious : Tour of Mont-Blanc

The Mont Blanc Tour is a round tour hike of 250 km in medium-altitude mountains in France, Italy and Switzerland. It is suitable for all trained hill-walkers who are used to hiking on varied terrain, carrying a heavy back-pack.

This “GR” [grande randonnée] major hike can be completed in an average of eight to ten days with six hours of walking every day. Everybody makes stops according to their physical abilities, their training, their loads (particularly campers) and the weather.

We strongly recommend inexperienced hill-walkers to join a club or a group led by a mountain leader.
The Office de Haute Montagne welcomes hill-walkers and mountaineers.

It will advise you in choosing your routes and in your searches, and in preparing for your adventure.
