Chamonix's local economy changed rapidly from agro-pastoral activities to tourism and leisure over just a few decades and the valley has been confronted with the problem of exponential international transport. Hence Chamonix is at the heart of responsible tourism issues.
Introduction by Bernard Prud'homme, director of the Chamonix Tourist Office :
"Tomorrow's valley" is an operation led by the SIVOM HVA to raise awareness and explain the envirommental actions and projects of the Haute Vallée de l'Arve (Vallorcine - Chamonix Mont-Blanc - Les Houches - Servoz), based on the principles of the Espace Mont Blanc sustainable development scheme.
What is it ?
intensive zones, with important ground occupation, such as housing, ski lifts etc.
extensive zones without significant infrastructures
an improved management of the flow of tourists
to alleviate the pressures of tourism on ecologically fragile zones
improved co-ordination between local authorities in order to highlight complementarities and synergies within the global tourist offer.
