Ski de randonnéeDépart de la Vallée Blanche

The legend asscociated with off-piste in the Chamonix valley was born on the confines of the glaciers, there where the slopes seem to go on forever.
The Valley Blanche, the Pas de Chevre, the Rognons glacier, so many fabulous names and places that, each year, attract the elite from the « planet freeride » !

The Valley Blanche

The most famous off-piste descent is doubtless the Valley Blanche, accessed via the Aiguille du Midi cable car and offering several variants: the normal Valley, the Petit Envers du Plan or the Grand Envers du Plan. This glacial route is very popular in early spring, but is nethertheless a high-mountain intinerary and the presence of a mountain guide is strongly recommended.

Be sure to pay attention to snow conditions and to the weather forecast. Avalanche search device, probe and shovel are indispensable. In the mountains, one must be aware.

Ski touring

In Chamonix, ski touring has always been associated with discovering and rediscovering the mountains. It is practiced throughout the winter, but especially in the spring when the conditions are optimal. There are numerous possibilities departing from the valley, not least the famous « Haute Route » which links Chamonix with Zermatt in Switzerland -5 unforgettable days across the Alps.

The day tours are accessed essentially from the top stations of the Grands Montets or the Flegere and they are of varying difficulty, so ideal for getting initiated with this wonderful sport. Ski touring necessitates a good knowledge of mountain and snow conditions. It is strongly recommended that you begin with a high mountain guide.
