From 1792, the Chemin des Diligences has linked Martigny and Chamonix via
the Col des Montets. It allows people to explore Vallorcine’s hamlets, which have faithfully preserved many of their traditions.
DescriptionBehind the railway station at Plan-Envers, near the Buet hamlet, take the road on the right, which starts off on the flat and then goes up through the meadows, following the railway line. Pass the train station in the hamlet of le Buet and visit the Mayens des Biolles (ancient coaching inn stables) and the chapel of Notre-Dame des Montets. Walk back towards le Buet, crossing under the railway track by the 2nd arch on the left, to find the hamlet of les Montets. Cross the Eau Noire river and walk along the main road to the hamlet of le Nant then to Morzay via a small road on the left. Continue on this road towards Plan-Droit to reach the hamlet of Crot and carry on till you reach le Sizeray. Notice the church with its typical avalanche barrier. Carry on toward le Mollard and pass through the meadows to reach Barberine (visit the museum, which is open in July and August).
Return : - by the same route to the Chef-Lieu. • from the hamlet of Barberine, walk down about 100 m on the RD 1506 road, then up through a clearing on your right. Near the oratory, some steps lead over the railway tunnel and the path meets up with the Eau Noire path climbing on the right to Vallorcine.
- by train: the Swiss station is 10 mn away (border - passport).
